Hello Crystal users,

One frustrating aspect of running Crystal Reports from Remedy
is getting errors, and having no tools for tracking them down.

We have eight CRs that run from buttons that call active
links. All have a location of Report Form. Suddenly with
two of the reports we got:

“Error in File C:\DOCUME~\[mylogin]\LOCAL~1\Temp\[report
name].rpt.
Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters.”

This is then followed by, “Error occurred in generating
report. (ARERR 1658)”.

Both reports run fine within Crystal. I’ve altered the
reports, saved them, deleted them from the Report form, and
reattached them, but still get the same error.

This same ailment has infected four more reports that were
working. There are still two that do work.

As a test I created a report with just the text “Hi”. No
data fields. Once again, it runs in Crystal, but in Remedy it
says “Error occurred in generating report. (ARERR 1658)”.
(We don’t get the “Error in File C. . .” error.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Hi Dwayne
check what the login name and password are for the ODBC connections. i have
a suspicion that is what the problem is, Crystal seems not to be able to
connect to the database. under the database option in Crystal check Verify
Database and Set Location options.

kind regards

shafqat

Having just battled something along the same lines, I have a few suggestions. Unfortunately, the error I was getting was different so you may have a different issue. Even if you have a different issue, maybe what I will suggest might point you in the right direction.

First check the ODBC driver settings and make sure that the ID\PW (if you're storing it in the driver) is correct. The error message makes me think that is the problem in your case.

In my case the main problem stemmed from the fact that I develop on 2, sometime 3 different workstations. Having slightly different Remedy Client versions on the workstations meant that I had slightly different ODBC drivers. I had to upgrade all my workstations to the latest Remedy client, remove all references to the old outdated ODBC drivers within the ODBC Admin and searching for the dll and renaming them. Finally I opened the affected reports (the older ones were working fine) and did a database\set datasource location action to point to the correct odbc driver. Then of course I save the changes.

I can suggest more complex troubleshooting if the above doesn't work, so post again if you need that.

Dwayne,
From my experience (limited as it is), I think your error is generated from
incorrect ODBC setup. Look there first. I have a Remedy user account set
up just for use with ODBC called "RemedyUser" with Public permissions
(only). I then use that account in the "User Name" field of the ODBC
configuration.

You must also have the exact same ODBC setup on the Crystal server.
