I was at Remedy's Pleasanton offices earlier today and here's what they said:

- Yes, earlier today the announcement was posted and a software package was available for download, but both were in error, and both were subsequently pulled from the website. Users who pulled an update package actually downloaded a "late-beta, pre-candidate-production" version (whatever THAT is) not suitable for production use.

- Yes, AR System 6.0 is due for release very soon. (And in case you didn't know it, Remedy has been conducting 6.0 training for partners and selected customers for the past several weeks.) But no one at Remedy is willing (or allowed) to go "public" with a release date. And yes, it's late (again). The original release date was planned for December 2003, then slipped to January 2004. February 2004 is almost guaranteed.

I also suggested Remedy pulled a "Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake" publicity stunt with the premature announcement -- whipping up a media buzz just before a major product release. Hey, I was even prepared to compliment them on their savvy marketing skills. But Remedy denied any such intent or planning. Go figure -- only Remedy would apply reverse spin and downplay free publicity earned after an honest mistake!

(Ah, Remedy, you know we really love ya!)

No doubt Remedy will make an "official" announcement to the ARSlist when 6.0 is actually released and available for downloading . . . ???

Bing,
I am not sure that Remedy deserves all of that rhetoric or criticism.
However, if we are sharing our opinions....

< IMHO >
) I do not recall Remedy ever making an "official" post to ARSList. They
monitor it, but as a rule do not participate directly. True, they sometimes
chime in behind the senes to help a specific customer with a specific
problem. However, they do not (to the best of my knowledge) use ARSList for
many Marketing/Publicity functions.

) Who would want to imitate the "'Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake'
publicity stunt"? The official story that I read yesterday (from the Yahoo
news web site) suggested that the "plan" was changed at the very last
minute by Janet and Justin and that the sponsors/organizers had no idea
that there was a change. Furthermore, the "plan" was to leave Janet with a
bra on and not completely expose herself. So there were two mistakes made.
Who wants to repeat that track record?

) "only Remedy would apply reverse spin". Not everyone considers telling
the truth "spin". Being honest and expecting that from others is a
refreshing way to do business these days. I personally want to see less
"spin" and more honesty in business. [Let's face it, the "truth in
advertising" laws appear to not apply when you do not talk about your
product and not opt for a "sex appeal"/"distraction" marketing approach.
"Make them horny or laugh and they will buy anything" appears to be the
advertizing rule these days and I find that very sad.]

) Remedy's marketing is very focused and has always been "smaller scoped"
than what I think the company could use. However, that is their choice.
Their licensing agreement is also very focused and I also think that it
could have a broader scope too. (However there choices appear to be in line
with each other. So I do not fault them on being consistent.)

) If v6 is late, then so be it. When it is ready then we will see it. Am I
saying that it will be "bug free", no. All software has bugs. However, I
would prefer that Remedy work as many of them out as possible before they
give it to me to put into production. (To me this is another "honesty"
factor. The product you sell should do what you say it does. When it does
not, then it is a "bug".)

< /IMHO >

Just talked to someone at Support and they confirmed it was a

someone publishing the what's new item a bit too early. I would
bet
that
we'll see the official annoucment in a few days though...

I don't know what y'all are smoking, but I see NO mention of it on
any
Remedy site. It will be released when marketing - er, I mean
Engineering
(sorry, I live in Microsquash country) says it's ready.

Bing,
I am not sure that Remedy deserves all of that rhetoric or criticism.

< /IMHO >

I was at Remedy's Pleasanton offices earlier today and here's what they
said:

- Yes, earlier today the announcement was posted and a software package
was available for download, but both were in error, and both were
subsequently pulled from the website. Users who pulled an update package
actually downloaded a "late-beta, pre-candidate-production" version
(whatever THAT is) not suitable for production use.

- Yes, AR System 6.0 is due for release very soon. (And in case you
didn't know it, Remedy has been conducting 6.0 training for partners and
selected customers for the past several weeks.) But no one at Remedy is
willing (or allowed) to go "public" with a release date. And yes, it's
late (again). The original release date was planned for December 2003,
then slipped to January 2004. February 2004 is almost guaranteed.

I also suggested Remedy pulled a "Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake"
publicity stunt with the premature announcement -- whipping up a media buzz
just before a major product release. Hey, I was even prepared to
compliment them on their savvy marketing skills. But Remedy denied any
such intent or planning. Go figure -- only Remedy would apply reverse spin
and downplay free publicity earned after an honest mistake!

(Ah, Remedy, you know we really love ya!)

No doubt Remedy will make an "official" announcement to the ARSlist when
6.0 is actually released and available for downloading . . . ???
