We submitted a ticket with Remedy Support in regards to a question we had about ARS 5.1.2.
According to Remedy's documentation, there is
"..More flexibility in DSO processing, which enhances processing speed and allows more flexibility in designing workflow..."

When we asked Remedy about what does DSO stand for they indicated that it stands for Distributed Server Option but that they didnt know what that really meant?? (not exactly what we were looking for..)

We are on ARS 4.5.2 so in regards to this feature, what can we expect in regards to performance with our system once we upgrade to 5.1.2?

Back in the old days, applications pretty much sat on one machine. Then they started to be **distributed** across several, and "distributed" became a buzz word. DSO allows you to distribute your application across servers.

Can't speak to the 5.1.2 improvements over earlier 5.x, altho I think 5.0 introduced dso mapping pools. You can channel dso transactions into different queues, so that the last one in doesn't have to wait for all dso transactions, only those in its queue or "pool".

Peter,
In a nutshell, "Distributed Server Option" means that you have multiple AR
Servers between which you can define processes to transfer data. This
option lets you share common information among servers and keep that
information consistent. There is a fairly good description of DSO in the
ARS 5.1 Concepts Guide.
If you are not currently running in a DSO environment and do not plan to
implement DSO when you upgrade to ARS 5.1.2, then the new DSO performance
enhancements will not have any impact on your system.
