Morning listers,

We are running ARS 5.0.1, ITSM 5.0.1, Solaris 8, with Oracle 8.1.7 on a
separate server as our production system. We are installing ARS 5.1.2, and
ITSM 5.5 on a new box, but will be using the same Oracle with a new
instance, and after migrating, moving, customizing, and whatever else we
find that must be done, will use the new box as our production server.

My request for today is for any gotchas that may be hidden within Oracle.
Such as, should the database name and database user name be changed from
ARSystem and ARAdmin to something like ARSys512 and ARAd512?

We do not have a full time DBA (bad move I know, but another story), so we
are real leary about hosing our current Oracle structure while the new
install is on going.

Thanx to all,
JB

Remedy does not seem that happy using different names, I managed a
really good foul up recently :-) As long as they are separate
instances - different ORACLESID then you should be OK with the
default names.

Dave,

Would you care to give more details on this foul up? I had always thought
that it wouldn't be an issue to run two instances of remedy on the same
database instance as long as you use different user IDs.

Yes... I did create a new instance with a totally new sid, so maybe
everything will run smooth.

Thanx Dave.

Luckily this was on my home system :-)

I had 4.1.3 installed with the usual user id and database tablespace
names. I tried to install 5.something alongside by adding a 5 to
everything. so aradmin5 ARSYSTEM5 etc.

The installer seemed to get confused and I ended up with a not
working v4 & 5. Somewhere in the install it took no notice of the
fact that I wanted different names and hit the standard ones. Never
bothered to look into it too closely. I did not really want the v4
anymore, so I trashed the lot and just put in a standard v5.
