Hello,
I've tailored my login.jsp file so that it shows the company logo across the
top instead of the Remedy logo, and hides the "Authentication" field.
I'm happy with the result except for one thing: I can't get rid of the white
text "AR System 5.1.2" at the top of the screen AND there is a strange "."
at the top lefthandside of the screen. The strange thing about the "." is
that when I hover the mouse over it, the status bar says "Applet Started".
How do I get rid of the text and the dot?
I've attached a copy of the login file as it currently stands. To use it
with the logo I save the logo in a file called "images" which is created in
the "Support Files" section of the Application inside the Admin tool.
Thanks!
Isabel

Isabel,
sounds like you might have bumped into the same thing I did when I was
working on this... Remedy uses a background image instead of setting a
header image inside of a table cell. When you try to use a header image in
a table cell, you'll find that their applet will ALWAYS grab about 10 pixels
square in the upper-left-hand corner of your browser window. I found this
in early 5.x versions, and it looks like it still has not been addressed by
remedy. I did have a ticket on it, but I think we closed it out when I
realized that there was no way currently to do what I wanted.
In the end, I had our tech. writer make an image the same size as their
background image that looked like what I wanted and used that one. Not the
easy way, but it worked...

I experienced the same problem when trying to customize the login.jsp and
here's what I found and how to correct it:
There appears to be a snippet of code in the logincommon.jsp file that
causes this whitespace. As you probably know, the logincommon.jsp file is
referenced as an "include" file in the header section of the login.jsp
file. Through trial and error I was able to pinpoint the code in the
logincommon.jsp file that was causing the whitespace. To correct the
problem, I cut/pasted this section of code from the logincommon.jsp
directly into the login.jsp (try placing it in a section where you don't
mind a line of whitespace, e.g. just above the "Welcome" text).
Here's the section of code in my login.jsp that (with comments) that I
cut/pasted from the logincommon.jsp file. Hope this solves your problem
too:
<%
if (browserType !=
WebTierConstants.BROWSERTYPENETSCAPE60) {
%>
code="com.remedy.arsys.applet.ClientServices.class"
codebase="<%=request.getContextPath()%>/apps/shared"
name="DataApplet"
archive="clientservices.zip"
width=1
height=1>
<% }%>

I don't seem to have this dot on mine...or I can't see it. Here are 2
different login pages we have with midtier 5.1.2. Hopefully this will help.

Hi Matt,
I know my response is quite delayed and you may have found this out already.
However, I just noticed your posting and I thought others might benefit from
this response, since you and I have had the same problem.
I worked with Remedy on this Mid-Tier/dot showing up problem before. I
thought it was a period at first, but in further investigation I found it
was the Java applet in "logincommon.jsp" set with a width and height of 2
pixels. Per Remedy support's suggestion, to resolve the problem, I put a
"visibility:hidden" style entry within the applet tag, as follows:
code="com.remedy.arsys.applet.ClientServices.class"
codebase="/arsys/apps/shared"
name="DataApplet"
archive="clientservices.zip"
width=0
height=0>
Hope this helps you or someone else...

Thanks, Jeff. I actually noticed this while customizing login.jsp last
