Hello,

At our site we don't have version control turned on but would like to. What steps are needed to prepare if any so this feature can be turned on?

Thanks for any help on this.

Cris

Buck,

we use M$ Visual Source Safe as the source control provider.

You need to do roughly the following to set it up:
First set up the VSS server and set up a SCC database you will use. This database needs to be located in a network share your developers will have access to. Create users for your developers and grant them rights to this database using VSS Admin. Then setup SCC client on each computer where AR Admin tool will be used to modify forms & workflow,
and integrate the two using the Server Information -> Source Control setting page. You will need to create a project per server your develpers will access with their admin tools.

Just a very brief overview. Hope this helps.

In general, using source control creates a development overhead - therefore if your project is small and you have just a few developers, the overhead may be bigger than the benefit brought. We have 10+ developers working at the moment and we still pull the defs paralell to the SCC.

Cheers,

Adam

Hey folks,

Want to bring up the topic of version control again. What packages are there for this. Had one person bring up MS VSS. How do they work with a Unix server.

Thanks for any help available.

Charles,

Thanks for the information. They're looking for something that is seemless and works with the Unix environment.

Have you used version control with Remedy? Is there a lot of overhead. Are there any down sides?

Cris

VSS and PVCS plug in to the Admin tool.

It looks like any tool that is Microsoft SCC C API compliant can integrate.

Potentially Harvest 5.1.1

Charles,

Thank you or helping me. Could you tell me about the limitation in VSS? You mentioned naming restrictions.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cris

We did not try PVCS due to it not being an accepted tool on our engagement.

VSS would not work for us because of Microsoft file naming restrictions and the names of existing Remedy objects in place at the time.

I have heard that Harvest 5.1.1 will work but that it is not seamlessly installed. Have not had any experience with this.
