Yeah, I can't make it work on my XP Professional machine with the following
config:
* J2SE 1.4.2
* XP Professional SP 1
* Application Explorer Beta
The admin tool just crashes out as soon as I try to open it.... Anyone got
any ideas?

Hi,
I hate to be the bearer of "good" news but I installed the product yesterday
and I have not had a problem running it. It may be slow and I haven't
understood the implications of using it yet but so far it hasn't crashed on
my Windows 2000 Server.

Following and looking at the instructions.. This seems to be only a Windoze
application ?
It mentions nothing about unix. I have never installed an .EXE on a Unix
box.. Especially an install Shield application.
So am I correct in saying this is a NON player in the Unix world ?

Hi,
I hate to be the bearer of "good" news but I installed the product yesterday
and I have not had a problem running it. It may be slow and I haven't
understood the implications of using it yet but so far it hasn't crashed on
my Windows 2000 Server.

c:\program files\ar system\ ?
There should be file named: appexprorer51.jar and other files that are in
command line. if not that is the reason of java exception.

Would somebody mind sending me a zipped copy of the program? SmartCert will not work in my environment (never has...), and it will take a long time to get remedy to set an ftp site for me.

It mentions nothing about unix. I have never installed an .EXE on a Unix

So am I correct in saying this is a NON player in the Unix world ?

OK, getting closer :)
I can't seem however to find out how to pass the 'TCPPORT' to the
commandline, doesn't appear to be an option for that.

I sure some of you won't agree, but since this is a Beta product,
and there is a Beta discussion list for it, perhaps the ins and outs of it
are best discussed there for now?
Mentioning that it is out was great,
but most will not be working with it, for now.
Please let the list know when it goes production.
but this is a special case>

But Dan ... some of us are willing to let the
'advanced players' work out all the bugs and figure
out how it works so that when we install it we have
their knowledge and experience to work with.
Please don't banish them to the other list and make us
follow two. The subject line is descriptive so those
that are not interested can simply skip those
postings. No different than any other topic.
Thanks,

Forwarding a note from the Remedy Application Explorer team:
Hi there,
This is about the problems people recently got with the newly released
Remedy Application Explorer.
One serious problem is the crash of Admin Tool. This is a known issue and it
only happens with JVM 1.4. We already submitted a bug to Java/Sun about this
issue. Before they fix that, there are 2 workarounds. One thing you can do
is to switch your JVM to Java 1.3. That is the recommanded platform. Another
option is to change registry value. Once you installed Application Explore,
you will find the following registry key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Remedy\AR System Administrator\5.1
And the default value is -Xmx256m. You can reduce this number to something
like: -Xmx128m and try it again. And it should solve the problem. Depending
on the system you have, this number may vary. Basically, this setting will
increase the max heap size of JVM and it is useful when you load a huge AR
application.
I also noticed that people quickly found the backdoor of the Application
Explorer by using command line option. I suggest you don't use that.
Invoking from the command line will lose many handy features such as
interopration with Admin tool. And we also got things like TCPPORT, LOCALE
from admin tool.
Last question is about the length of characters displayed in execution flow
view. Due to the real estate issue, we truncate the long name of the
workflows, however, we do provide the tooltip for all the workflows. When
you move mouse over to those nodes, you will see full name displayed in the
tooltip. If the node is a runif node, the tooltip even displays the whole
qualification string.
Please let us know if you have any questions/comments.
Thanks,
Zheng

If you already have licensed Application Explorer on the server, this might
be because you didn't select that server in admin tool. Highlight the server
and go to the menu again to see whether that menu option is enabled. Let me
know if it doesn't work.

I have the same problem,
I am still trying to make it work,
It might be related to the (for me) the license tool would Not accept the
license..
* Oh and Remedy License department will only give me a 30 day Deal.. Even
if the WEB page
says it is good till jan 31st of 2004. (Go Figure !)
So I was told by license department to just put it in manually.. It seems
to have taken
However.. It is still not working.
1. I have installed, re-installed.
2. I have ensured the 1.4.2 ENV is the right home for JAVA in the XP OS.
3. I have stopped and started the Server.
4. I have Installed 1.4.2 on the SERVER just to check that part out.
5. I have Modified the REG to put the Doug Mueller example to mod the XmX
Settings.
Nothing.

You need to have a valid license key and you must have selected a server
in the "Servers" list of the admin tool.
As a comment to recent posts in this thread, I have to agree with Dan
(and no I'm not kissing up!). I am of the opinion that questions
concerning a beta product should be directed to the listserv for that
product. I know it's helpful for all of the Remedy community to know
what's going on with the beta, but then beta testers have to go check
two places for issues/updates.
So, if you want to know what's going on, then download the beta and
participate in the other list. Otherwise, wait until it's out of beta
and then try it.

Hi Patrick
I haven't tried playing with the Explorer product yet, but I've had all
sorts of problems with XP Professional and Java version 1.4.x - like the Mid
Tier completely refusing to work. For the Mid Tier, downgrading java to
1.3.108 solved the problem, so it might be worth trying this for the
Explorer product also.
