Actually this brings back memories of GUIDE/SHARE conferences. These
were *always* somewhere really nice - especially the European ones -
but we had trouble getting the techies there. The manager would say
"Rome? I'm going" You could tell the managers at the conferences -
they were the ones with a bemused expression because they had
absolutely *no* idea what any of the sessions were about.
Even worse - Some techies from a UK company wanted to go to a GUIDE
conference on the USA west coast - guess who went? A short time later
the shop hit trouble with, IIRC, CICS or IMS - they had a *really*
bad time. Several months later the proceedings of the conference came
out - to their horror they found a paper outlining what they had just
gone through and how to avoid it. Upon pointing this out to their
manager he replied " Err yes I went to that session - didn't
understand any of it."

Exactly why the focus should remain on having the people from our shops and Remedy's in one place, and not on where that place is. I go for the technical contacts and content, not for the recreational opportunities that I rarely have much time to scope out anyway. I would posit that if someone is attending RUG with other motives than to learn, their dollars would be better spent on something else.

That's part of why I voted for West Coast - seemed like lots of Remedy
employees drove up to the conference. Of course, it is nice to have RUG in
a temperate climate with good restaurants.

Have you been to Baltimore?
I think it would make an excellent RUG 2004 Conference Site.
Steamed Crabs are worth the trip!!! Crab Cakes!!! Camden Yards!!! History
all around!!! (Washington, Fort McHenry, Gettysburg, etc., etc.) Great
Restaurants (Little Italy, Inner Harbor, Fells Point, etc. etc.)
The party could be a big crab feast!! Crabs and Beer (It doesn't get any
better than this)!! Eat till you drop! Of course you'll need a lesson in how
to pick a crab! Only Baltimore natives know how to do it properly.
Of course I live here so I'm bias to this area.

I had gone there on training and while there had the chance to go to Camden Yards, it was incredible. If only the Yankees had that stadium and prices. Don't leave out the Inner Harbor, particularly Phillips ( great food ) and all the historical sites. Not to mention a chance to see the nation's capital. Granted my choices would be NYC, SF, Balt in that order, but Baltimore does have alot going for it and like NYC and SF is serviced by 2 airports. FYI, I am willing to offer a class on crab pickin.
