I dont think it has anything to do with not installing the preference
server since I mistakenly also did not install it during one of the Remedy
classes.

When I was installing ARS 5.01 on linux I had the Remedy User tool pointing
to the server via an IP address.
Since I had tons of problems for some reason... I was left with having to
enter a DNS name in my Windows Host file (where the Remedy User was being
run from) and have that DNS name (which is really an alias to an IP) point
to the Linux Remedy Server IP address. I also had to add that alias DNS
name in the Admin Tool for the Linux box under File -> Server Information
-> Platform -> Server Name Alias.
Then all my problems with that linux box went away.

Not sure if this might help, but its the closest experience that I had that
sounds like your problem.
I dont remember the symptoms that I had when I was forced to do this, but
just thought it might help.

Subject: servers unavailable

Hello listers, I'm still trying to run this problem down. Here's my
environment:

xppro, standalone instsallation
oracle 8i
Remedy 5.0.1

I'm getting the mesage one or more servers are unavailable.
ARWARN 59 no such user exists, successfully connected as a guest user
user:demo

My server is xpworkstation03, that's the hostname of my machine, and
that's what's in the ar.cfg file. Portmapper is running, oracle is runing,
the listener is running, and remedy is running.

Here's how I'm logging in:
username: demo
no password
no preference server
no authentication

Perhaps this is my problem? I remember in the install that I wanted to use
a preference server, but I never set one up. Is there a default? Would
this be preventing me from logging on?

Please help, I need to get this project off the ground.

Thanks a bunch.

Drew

Remedy login names are case sensitive. The standard admin account is Demo
with a capital D, not demo
