DSO Transfer Problem

DSO is returning an ARDSERR 3113 error while trying to transfer data in a
matched custom form. The Migrator difference report for the comparison of
the source and destination forms is all green. The error message reads "To
form in mapping definition is different from target form in the attempted
mapping. The form defined as the To form does not match the form that is the
target of this transfer. Typically, this error occurs when a mapping
specified in a transfer operation on the current server differs from the
same mapping on the original server". The filter is executing as designed
and mapping is correct and free of typos. I searched the KBs and the
archives but did not find a reference to the error number. The platform is
ARS 403 patch 1103, Oracle 806 running on HPUX 10.20. I'm open to thoughts
anyone may have.
Thanks
Peter

Peter,
I've seen this. Sometimes all you have to do is re-create the mapping and
it works. You may also receive this error due to network problems. You can
test this by creating a new form with basic DSO fields on one server and
exporting it to the other server...then create the mappings/filters, mapping
like ID's. If you have the same problem with that form, then you may have a
networking problem.

Rick
I have DSO working on the Help Desk form with no problem. I have recreated
the filter and mapping on both servers several times but to no avail. I even
tried to map a single field and received the same result. I have also
recreated he form with both the import tool (w/ arclean) and Migrator 5 and
again I had the same result.
Rick, thanks for giving it a shot!!

Hi Peter,
We have also found a few ambiguous messages with regards to DSO.
It appears as if you have checked your filter/s and mapping/s. One other
area we found that caused a problem was in the Attributes tab, Patterns (ie
$UPPER$ or $MENU$). As soon as we took this off, DSO worked.

Hi...
This error refers to the mapping definition, not to the form definition.
Migrator will tell you the forms are identical, but the mapping, which is a
single record in the Distributed Mappings form, is different on the two
servers. You'll get error 3113 when there a difference (probably a very
subtle one, like an extra trailing space or tab or carriage return) between
the mapping as stored on the origin server and the same mapping as stored on
the destination server. The two definitions must be absolutely identical.
Quick fix for this one case... open the Distributed Mappings form on the
origin sever and export the mapping you want. This is just a record in a
form and you can export and import (and edit, but DON'T do that unless you
know what you're doing!) it just like any other record in any other ARS
form. After you export in in in .ARX format, use arimport to import it into
the destination server. Watch for unique indexes when you import.
A better, long term fix for this situation is to distribute your mappings
via DSO. You'll need to use one server as the master for these, add the DSO
fields to the Distributed Mapping forms on all the affected servers, and
then write and manually install ONE mapping that transfers an identical,
independent copy from the master to each of the other servers. A filter
attached to the Distributed Mappings form, triggered on Submit and Modify,
with Qualification $USER$ != "Distributed Server", uses this mapping to copy
the other records in the distributed mapping form to your other servers
whenever there's a change. For real fun and excitement you can do
distributed deletes too.
There was at one time a Remedy white paper that covered the DSO of DSO
technique, but I haven't looked for it lately.
Hope this helps..
Doug

Hey Doug
The export/import idea worked. I had created the mapping several times
making sure not to make any mistakes but I guess some thing happened
somewhere in the process. Just a little side note, when I set up DSO for the
Help Desk form I had to also add ...AND 'Last-modified-by' != "Distributed
Server". Without the entry DSO would create a new entry in the Distributed
Pending form every second for a single Help Desk transaction.
Thanks again Doug
Pete
