I believe that the developers site offered the choice of:

Las Vegas
San Jose
Sacramento (ugh)

Of those, I really don't care, because I rarely leave the conference center anyway, except after the first hour of the party. I want whatever gives best access to the engineering staff, and whatever will increase the attendance of both users and vendors.

Omaha, NE is central to everyone. And if it were here, my boss might let my
entire team go. :)

Omaha isn't as exciting as Disneyland or NYC, but it is quite a nice city
with a large selection of wonderful restaurants, a world-class zoo, and a
vibrant downtown. I believe air fares are pretty cheap as well, since there
isn't a huge demand for people to visit here.

BTW, I'll try to visit New York, New York and Paris while I'm there.

Why do you folk keep looking for mainland USA conference centres? You could
come down to New Zealand, or even a bit further to Antarcticawhere I am
sure you could be accomodated at our Scott Base, or the American's McMurdo.
You'd have to stay there for the whole winter though - last flight in
February and the next one around September. A penguin propsed marriage to me
once there, but that's another story

Cheers

That's right, the heck with the mainland. Kahului or Hilo would suit me
just fine - Honolulu if you twist my arm. I need an excuse to go "home"
to the islands - ANY excuse! Is this thread out of control yet?

Why do you folk keep looking for mainland USA conference centres? You
could come down to New Zealand, or even a bit further to
Antarcticawhere I am sure you could be accomodated at our Scott Base, or
the American's McMurdo. You'd have to stay there for the whole winter
though - last flight in February and the next one around September. A
penguin propsed marriage to me once there, but that's another story

I believe that the developers site offered the choice of:

Las Vegas
San Jose
Sacramento (ugh)

Of those, I really don't care, because I rarely leave the conference
center anyway, except after the first hour of the party. I want
whatever gives best access to the engineering staff, and whatever will
increase the attendance of both users and vendors.

So who really decides where the RUG meetings are to be held??? Does Remedy have a say in it? How are the meetings structured? Are they separate for the US market and separate for the European and Asian market? Do these meetings ever get to come to Asia? I've heard of them happening in Europe, but none in Asia so far. Any particular reason why it isn't?

In the past Remedy selected the site. In the early years when they had limited field offices it was always in the bay area. The last several years before Perdition (ops I don’t think I spelled the San Diego Companies name correctly) they had a small group of frequent attendees as an advisory committee vote on a range of sites and other issues. It will be interesting to see how the new organization handles it. Perdition had a much different approach to interacting with their customers and had already scheduled their 2003 meeting in San Diego.

I Swear to the almighty that if I have to go to Disneyland EVER AGAIN I may have to do something rash!

Sorry Gidd, but in my "humble" (that's a laugh...humble!) opinion disneyland was nothing more then the worlds largest mass mugging!

I still vote for NYC, we have plenty of places to hold it, tons of great restaurants, plenty of sights to see, and that time of year the muggers and pickpockets are vacationing in San Jose, Las Vegas, and Sacramento.

I Swear to the almighty that if I have to go to Disneyland EVER AGAIN I may have to do something rash!

Sorry Gidd, but in my "humble" (that's a laugh...humble!) opinion disneyland was nothing more then the worlds largest mass mugging!

BAH! HUMBUG!

John, just out of curiosity, could you tell us how Remedy is used in Antarctica?

>>> JohnA@PLANWELL.CO.NZ 07/02/02 09:59PM >>>
**

Why do you folk keep looking for mainland USA conference centres? You could
come down to New Zealand, or even a bit further to Antarcticawhere I am
sure you could be accomodated at our Scott Base, or the American's McMurdo.
You'd have to stay there for the whole winter though - last flight in
February and the next one around September. A penguin propsed marriage to me
once there, but that's another story

Cheers

I believe that the developers site offered the choice of:

Las Vegas
San Jose
Sacramento (ugh)

Of those, I really don't care, because I rarely leave the conference center
anyway, except after the first hour of the party. I want whatever gives
best access to the engineering staff, and whatever will increase the
attendance of both users and vendors.

But think of how efficient the computers run. And with no need for climate controlled server rooms. Wanna bring down the temp? Just pump in more outside air.

How about Mexico? I'm pretty sure there's some all inclusive resort that
would be happy to take us in.

Otherwise I would have to vote for somewhere in Canada, preferably the
western provinces.

Is it a Peregrine Penguin?

Perhaps the use for Remedy could be some sort of penguin help desk for
keeping track of John's proposals????

It's not yet, but I've got a few idea's on keeping track of penguin colonies, and some of the deep drilling results. Come down, and we'll get the last team of Huskies and have a race.

John, just out of curiosity, could you tell us how Remedy is used in Antarctica?

How about tracking personnel, supplies, and equipment? Say your base doctor needed a scalpel to perform a biopsy on herself, she could put in a request to the supply station in more northerly latitudes and have one shipped in at the next supply drop.

My $.02.

I believe that the developers site offered the choice of:

Las Vegas
San Jose
Sacramento (ugh)

Of those, I really don't care, because I rarely leave the conference center
anyway, except after the first hour of the party. I want whatever gives
best access to the engineering staff, and whatever will increase the
attendance of both users and vendors.

Well if you aren't up the cold climate of Antarctica, we could always have it here in Bentonville, AR. I mean the weather is great: 90 degrees in the shade and 87% humidity. There's also a lot to do as long as it's before 6pm, but who would want to be out after that hour anyway.

I would like to go out on a limb here and vote for the middle of the
country so more people can attend, say St. Louis or Kansas City. Just a

Phil,

What's the cost to see the King's Graceland......
We could use Paul Simon's song "I'm Going to Graceland"
as a theme for the meeting.... I LIKE IT !!!

I would like to go out on a limb here and vote for the middle of the

1st choice:

Disneyland:
- cheap airfares
- bring spouses and kids (weekend before or after)
- more rides, drink less, see Goofy

2nd choice:

Las Vegas:
- cheap airfares
- bring spouses, kids optional
- more cards, drink more, see like Goofy.

Later,
-Geoff

I agree, Madison is a great town, except for when the DOT is doing
construction on Johnson St, University Ave, the beltline, or I-94. (read

I have been asked by the powers that be to get realistic on this
thread....don't ask. So here's reality, it is more than likely
going to be in Santa Clara or San Francisco area because of the close
proximity to Remedy's offices. The reasoning is simple, we as
members of the Remedy community can see/talk to more Remedy
people (including people like Doug Muller, and others) while
helping Remedy to save money. As Remedy enters this critical
stage in the well being of the company I think this is the best
solution for us all.

This thread was started by me to achieve an alternative purpose,
and it has achieved that, to get us all thinking positively about
Remedy and less about the turmoil surrounding Peregrine. Let's
face facts, we all want Remedy back in the driver's seat of it's own
destiny.

Thanks for replying to the thread, Dan Bloom may nominate me for
this year's longest thread....please don't I'll be a good boy.
Hope to see everyone at the RUG meeting wherever it ends up being
held.

Regards...Gidd

I concur - it's always been most successful when Remedy had most of its people there, or at least nearby. San Francisco would be a wonderful place to have it!

How about where ever Remedy has it's corporate headquarters these days.... hold the conference in the Best Western, HoJo, Holiday Inn Express... Select a "host" hotel that is less expensive and more people will attend!

The most important thing about the next RUG is CONTENT! CONTENT! CONTENT!

If my manager looks at an agenda that looks like the Synergy agenda - high on "sales pitchy" stuff and low on "techie stuff", I can forget going!

Gidd, in light of your most recent post, I guess it's a non-issue, but
you asked 8-) The Graceland tour is $16 and a "platinum" tour (have *no*
idea what that is) is $25. That's a great idea about using Paul Simon's
song as a theme, it never occurred to me. (Who knows, Doug might like to
see Graceland!)

Thanks,
Phil

Phil,

What's the cost to see the King's Graceland......
We could use Paul Simon's song "I'm Going to Graceland"
as a theme for the meeting.... I LIKE IT !!!

Phil,

Sorry and glad to hear your news, I obviously would like to see
Graceland and would definitely spring for the Platinum tour.

It was either that or Black Velvet...."if you please".....
I'll send a message to Doug or maybe he's watching now?

Listers:

Hope to see everyone at the RUG meeting wherever it ends up being
held.

Is this so Remedy can introduce three-tier architecture to their RUG
meetings? Once they run out of room, you get to hang from the rafters at
varying heights, based on the time you arrived? I have a feeling there are
no HoJos/HI Expresses in that area that have the space to house the
thousands of foaming at the mouth ARS aficionados that will no doubt be
beating the doors in.

Besides, I thought less expensive hotel and San Francisco were mutually
exclusive when used in the same sentence! Then again, just because a
conference is held in an expensive hotel, that doesn't mean to say that you
have to stay there. There has to be some "reasonable" rack rates within
transportation distance wherever they hold the conference. Inconvenience can
equate to attendance!

Well, I don't think in the Bay Area you're going to find cheap hotels that would work as convention sites, but instead of spending lots of $$ on a party, charter buses to take everyone interested downtown S.F., let them party where they like (where they can hear one another, unlike the Party), and then bus them back. I'll probably drag some people down there anyway.

great idea Claire! I toss in my vote for that, a thriftier RUG. Easier on the pocket. less glitz, more focused, and a chance to munch on crabs at Fisherman's Wharf.

I concur - it's always been most successful when Remedy had most of its people there, or at least nearby. San Francisco would be a wonderful place to have it!

Listers:

I would like to go out on a limb here and vote for the middle of the
country so more people can attend, say St. Louis or Kansas City. Just a
thought.

Tuesday morning through Thursday afternoon, with optional 1/2 day tutorials on Sunday and Monday (those cost extra). Cost is usually around $1000 for the conference. Meals and snacks are included, as are all sessions and events.

If you're looking for justification to attend, I can tell you that I learn far more at RUG than at any training class, and some things you just can't get anywhere else. Networking with other people at BOF sessions, learning about new and complementary products that I can use with my ARS products - it's so good I have never left a conference (been to 3) to attend Disneyland, Six Flags, or whatever else was near.

Can you give some historical information about the past RUG(s)held?
Specifically, how many days are usually scheduled? Is there a registration
fee for the large group RUG? If so, how much has it been in the past?

We are currently putting in our budget requests for 2003 so, your
assistance is appreciated.

Having attended every RUG I support Rick's statement. It is worth more
than the price of admission if you are a Remedy professional.

I'm sure there'll be quite a few, "I agree" e-mails on this one! The RUGs I
went to were very much worth it. You not only get to see how other people
solve problems you may be running into yourself, as well as things you may
have never thought about doing...

And, of course, the people you meet makes a huge impact. It helps so much
to put faces to the names you see here. The last RUG I went to (Santa
Clara), I got to meet a TON of people with whom I regularly communicate
about different issues. Of course, I had to fly down to Phoenix to meet
Chris W. (while I was visiting family), but that's a different story
altogether... ;-)

I hope that we'll find the budget to send some folks from my team, 'cause
like Rick said, you get more out of it than a normal class.

Enjoy!
