Check out the Fodor's guide to San Francisco, there are some great 2 and 3 star hotel values

Well, I don't think in the Bay Area you're going to find cheap hotels that would work as convention sites, but instead of spending lots of $$ on a party, charter buses to take everyone interested downtown S.F., let them party where they like (where they can hear one another, unlike the Party), and then bus them back. I'll probably drag some people down there anyway.

great idea Claire! I toss in my vote for that, a thriftier RUG. Easier on the pocket. less glitz, more focused, and a chance to munch on crabs at Fisherman's Wharf.

How about where ever Remedy has it's corporate headquarters these days.... hold the conference in the Best Western, HoJo, Holiday Inn Express... Select a "host" hotel that is less expensive and more people will attend!

The most important thing about the next RUG is CONTENT! CONTENT! CONTENT!

If my manager looks at an agenda that looks like the Synergy agenda - high on "sales pitchy" stuff and low on "techie stuff", I can forget going!

I concur - it's always been most successful when Remedy had most of its people there, or at least nearby. San Francisco would be a wonderful place to have it!

Listers:

I have been asked by the powers that be to get realistic on this
thread....don't ask. So here's reality, it is more than likely
going to be in Santa Clara or San Francisco area because of the close
proximity to Remedy's offices. The reasoning is simple, we as
members of the Remedy community can see/talk to more Remedy
people (including people like Doug Muller, and others) while
helping Remedy to save money. As Remedy enters this critical
stage in the well being of the company I think this is the best
solution for us all.

This thread was started by me to achieve an alternative purpose,
and it has achieved that, to get us all thinking positively about
Remedy and less about the turmoil surrounding Peregrine. Let's
face facts, we all want Remedy back in the driver's seat of it's own
destiny.

Thanks for replying to the thread, Dan Bloom may nominate me for
this year's longest thread....please don't I'll be a good boy.
Hope to see everyone at the RUG meeting wherever it ends up being
held.

Regards...Gidd

I would like to go out on a limb here and vote for the middle of the
country so more people can attend, say St. Louis or Kansas City. Just a
thought.

Tuesday morning through Thursday afternoon, with optional 1/2 day tutorials on Sunday and Monday (those cost extra). Cost is usually around $1000 for the conference. Meals and snacks are included, as are all sessions and events.

If you're looking for justification to attend, I can tell you that I learn far more at RUG than at any training class, and some things you just can't get anywhere else. Networking with other people at BOF sessions, learning about new and complementary products that I can use with my ARS products - it's so good I have never left a conference (been to 3) to attend Disneyland, Six Flags, or whatever else was near.

Can you give some historical information about the past RUG(s)held?
Specifically, how many days are usually scheduled? Is there a registration
fee for the large group RUG? If so, how much has it been in the past?

We are currently putting in our budget requests for 2003 so, your
assistance is appreciated.

Having attended every RUG I support Rick's statement. It is worth more
than the price of admission if you are a Remedy professional.

I'm sure there'll be quite a few, "I agree" e-mails on this one! The RUGs I
went to were very much worth it. You not only get to see how other people
solve problems you may be running into yourself, as well as things you may
have never thought about doing...

And, of course, the people you meet makes a huge impact. It helps so much
to put faces to the names you see here. The last RUG I went to (Santa
Clara), I got to meet a TON of people with whom I regularly communicate
about different issues. Of course, I had to fly down to Phoenix to meet
Chris W. (while I was visiting family), but that's a different story
altogether... ;-)

I hope that we'll find the budget to send some folks from my team, 'cause
like Rick said, you get more out of it than a normal class.

Enjoy!
