Does anyone have a suggestion on how to track how long a user with a
floating license stays logged into the system ?

Hi,

I know that 5.x has some additional features. If you find any information
on this, please let me know also.

With Floating Licenses if there are none available Remedy will let the user in and the user can submit NEW cases, and search, but can not modify - correct?

Thanks.

Correct! A Floating license will be allocated to allow the user to modify
requests when one becomes available.

If you have submitter mode locked and they are the submitter of a ticket they can modify that ticket with a Read license.

Since we're on the subject of floating licenses, let me ask you this. When all the floating licenses are being used, a user logs into Remedy and gets a warning saying that there are no floating licenses available. Is there a log file somewhere that shows how many times a user logs in during the day and gets this no Floating Licenses available warning? Does Remedy have any utility out the shows the # of users logged in and the # of licenses used? Thanks!

Sunshine,

You can turn on the User log. This isn’t the prettiest file, but it will give you a lot of information. You can see the user’s login, the time stamp of the event, and the event. You can look in the Server Admin guide for more information.

Here’s a segment from ours:

/* Thu Sep 05 2002 08:02:22.8524 */ READ RELEASE jknittle

/* Thu Sep 05 2002 08:03:42.3556 */ FLOAT GRANT WRITE jjohnson (7 of 10 write)

/* Thu Sep 05 2002 08:10:12.2877 */ FIXED GRANT WRITE ashive

/* Thu Sep 05 2002 08:14:00.0322 */ FIXED GRANT WRITE slloyd

I simply use the License Information option in the Admin Tool to view the users logged in. I know that there are other options available too.

HTH.

Your users are notified when they don't get a floating license? That must be nice....

I wasn't involved in the implementation of Remedy here last summer, but I can tell you that nobody here knows they don't have a floating license until after they've attempted to save changes that they've made to a ticket. For some odd reason the support people get a little cranky when that can't save their detailed work log entry....

What can I do to fix this?

ARUser 4.5.2
Helpdesk 4.0.3
WinNT 4 SP6
Oracle 8.1.7.3

Thanks!!
