Hi all,

I am hainvg great difficulties getting ARS to talk to a remote oracle
database. The Customer inventories are stored on a single oracle database
and ARS interogates this data to fault report.

I have setup the DB link and the TNSNAMES.Ora file, and if I try through
SQL*Plus on the server, I can do the same queries as remedy and they work
fine. If I try the same through remedy, it gives the error message:

ORA-12154 - TNS: could not resolve service name.

Please Help!

Thanks,
Karen

Hmm. If you can run the SQLPlus command from the Remedy server then there
should be no problems running it from Remedy. I have a number of DBLinks
from Remedy to a remote Oracle database using the string:

SELECT * FROM table@dblink;

The DBLink name should be in your TNSNAMES.ORA file on the Remedy server but
it sounds like you already have it (as you can use SQLPlus).

Can you do a TNSPing of your remote database?
When you test your DBLink - does it test active?
Can you send us an example of the SQL command you are using?

Mike.

Thanks for the offers. I managed to work out that the problem was caused by
the aradmin unix account was not set up with the ORACLEHOME directory.
(remedy was previously installed, but the database was overwritten by a copy
from another server)

Thanks again,
Karen
