Any indication WHICH Netscape 6.x versions they will support in ARS 5.1? I
have people here making decisions on when to finally roll out IE 6 and
Netscape 6 on departmental desktops, and they are asking about projected
compatibility. We have hit incompatibilities with BOTH 6.x browsers against
various web services here.

Any discussion of Help Desk 5.x in that mix of news?? What is your take on
the new mail integration in relationship to Rem-Mail (since we are about to
roll it into production against ARS 4.5.2/HD4 after considerable investment
of effort, and immediately begin development against ARS 5.0/HD5)?

Gidd,
Thanks for the info. If you can give enhancement feedback, here is
one thing:

LDAP - to support External Authorization

I hope they set this up to just verify the username and password against
LDAP, everything else should still come from the User form. It would also
be a big help if this could be turned on and off per user (not the whole
system like blank passwords and AREA).

Why: a number of companies are going to LDAPs, but getting LDAP to hold ARS
License info and/or ARS group info isn't going to happen. So if all this did
was check username and password in LDAP and still get license / group info
from the user form would be great.

Any chance that the external authorization would include authentication, like PKI?

Will there be any slides available on this like RUG? When do they plan on commiting to these enhancements?

Is the email enhancement coming in 5.01 or 5.1?

the e-mail engine, it looks good !
Some of these items will hit with the 5.01, while the other may or may not
make the 5.1 release but we are
hopeful that they all will.

Susan,

Yes, although I didn't write this down PKI was definitely mentioned ! Give
Rick Ponzo a call and see if his notes expand of mine? I was very difficult
to
be engrossed in the presentation and keep good notes, but I tried.

Any chance that the external authorization would include authentication,

Any discussion of Help Desk 5.x in that mix of news?? What is your take on
the new mail integration in relationship to Rem-Mail (since we are about to
roll it into production against ARS 4.5.2/HD4 after considerable investment
of effort, and immediately begin development against ARS 5.0/HD5)?

Paul,

Like I said taking notes and watching the presentation was hard. However,
you will be happy to know that the development team is planning on using the
http://www.peregrine.com/devcommunity/index.htm Developer link to interact
with the user community for development issues and feedback. What this
means
is a real product engineer interacting with your requests for enhancements
and etc., they are even planning on using this resource for surveys.

Gidd,
Thanks for the info.

Hum.. Just my 2 cents....

I thought that 5.0.1 would be patches for 5.0.0 and not "new features"?
(According to the documented description that was posted about the "pool".)

I would think 5.1 would be the place that "new features" are added. (Not
that I'm suggesting that Peregrine needs to "hold off" to add the new
features. Rather, I would just like them to follow their own naming
standards. I like standards when they are used consistently. :)

Listers:

Jamie, has reminded me of several other "new" features.

A couple other items that will be included in the
5.0.1 release is hierarchical search and SQL menus.
Thanks for jogging my memory Jamie.

This is my first day back at the office, so I'll try to decrypt my notes and
answer some of the questions.

They said PKI would be supported, but I wasn't convinced. I think that will
be a "wait and see" feature.

Chris,

Yes, there was discussion of Help Desk 5. First off, if you have heavily
customized your application, you might want to think twice about the
upgrade. Second, the upgrade specifically adds web view functionality.
That's the major feature change. If you don't have a great requirement for
web views, you might want to stay with the 4.x product.
