Hello Listers,

Trying to get multiple instances and versions of ARS on one PC.

I got this to work once before (Thanks, Gidd and Rob). But that was on a
machine running Win2K and SQL Server 7.

Has anyone made it work on a Win2K laptop with NO database? Just the
flatfile.

I thought I had it licked but it points both versions (ARS 4.5.2 and ARS 5.0
) to the same data base.
It never did ask for a database name, is that because it is using the
flatfile?

TIA,

I would think that somewhere is a file name for the flat file and if you
change the name, you are accessing a 'new' and 'different' database. So
in 4.x this flat file name might be hardcoded and non-configurable but
in ARS 5.0 you should be able to specify it somehow meaning that you use
the default with 4.x and use a different file for 5.0.

Unfortunately I don't have a clue on where the filename is kept or how
to change it. I would guess it is in either the same directory as your
tools (or a subdir of it) or in the same directory as your SQL database
(or a subdir).

Hi All

...just an idea. Run an advanced "File search" using the "Containing Text"
option and search for all the files containing your database name and see if
you can change it manually.

John,
I might be wrong, but I think the location of the flat file DB is
dependent on the location of the install. So install one version into
\program files\Remedy1 and the second install into \program files\Remedy2.
You will need to configure each server to not use portmapper and set
specific TCP ports for each. (Maybe one could use portmapper and the second
one would be a "hidden/non-default" server, but I'm not sure about that.)

Let us know if you work it out.
