Hi - nice site - being a novice in programming i'm not sure this is the right forum though? But i'll state my business anyway ;-) I think this tool - LICMON - can be the answer to my long said prayers, but I just cant make it work.
I set it up, imported DEF.s, downloaded ARSperl 1,73, running on ARS4.52 on WIN NT 4.0 server - connecting to SQL2000 server. Trying to run the licmon.pl to set up the first entry in the form, i get errors like:
"ARS object version 1.72 does not match bootstrap parameter 1.71 at d:/perl/lib/dynaloader.pm line 225.
Compilation failed in require at d:\licmon\licmon.pl line 12. BEGIN failed -- compilation aborted at D:\licmon\licmon.pl line 12. "

Mind you again - I'm a complete novice in programming - but eager to learn. ;-P

Any ideas / help would be much appriciated.

Thanks in advance
Henrik

Henrik,

first of all, glad you like the site!! And I hope the tool ends up being useful for you!

That said, have you tried running the .exe version instead of the .pl? The .exe will run on Windows machines whether or not you have perl installed. I would try that as a first step. If you prefer to run the script in native format I will help as best I can!

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. I guess you were right about installing Perl, cause I set it all up from my test server, which should be a copy of my production server - also with the Perl installed. Now it runs very smoot, and since I can define in the CFG file which server to connect to and get data from, this will do the trick for me. Thank you for a very helpfull tool, now I can show my bosses that we Really need licenses, since all are taken at 10 AM in the morning! Thank you once again.
Best regards
Henrik

Hi again Matt.
I'm having problems using the Remedy escalation tool to update my licmon. When manually trying the PL script, or the exe file, an entry is made. When using an escalation, i get no entry. This is strange...... I have an entry in the API log from both the command line and via the escalation - they are not alike. Via Remedy the ARCreateEntry seems never to run?. I have tried reinstalling everything, same problem. Im running AR4.52 on WIN NT - to servers, a production and a test one. Im running from the test against the production.
Can you help me - this has shown to be a very helpfull tool in the administration of Remedy. I've come to like it a lot ;-) Any hints / help would be very much appriciated.

Glad you like the tool! We use it all the time here, too...

Make sure that the escalation is set to fire correctly... I believe the one I had in the .def was looking for something like this:
'Entry ID' = "LM00000001"
If that entry does not exist on your system, it won't fire...

secondly, if your server is NT, make sure you are pointing your run process to the .exe and not the .pl... that way it doesn't matter if you have perl/arsperl installed.

Other than that, the last option is to not use an escalation... set up a scheduled process on the NT box to fire. Some people have been using crontab on UNIX boxes with lots of success (instead of the escalation).

Let me know if that helps.

As I told you before - Im a PL novice ;-) No matter what I do, I see in the Escal.log that it is supposed to run -

<ESCL> <TID: 000487> <RPC ID: 0000021269> <Queue: Escalation> <Client-RPC: 390603> <USER: AR_ESCALATOR > 0: Process
<ESCL> <TID: 000487> <RPC ID: 0000021269> <Queue: Escalation> <Client-RPC: 390603> <USER: AR_ESCALATOR > cmd /c"d:\licmon\licMon.exe"

And I have tried without the CMD /c , without the' " ' and so on - no matter what - it wont run. When running it from the CMD line on my NT - it works fine. Well - then again its not your problem, it worked fine for some time, and proved to be a great tool. I will look into a way to make the NT AT command run every 5 - 10 minutes in stead, maybe that will work? I will let you know. Thanks again. Maybe, if you need work ;-) If it is possible in the next version, to save info on who is logged on using the licenses when running the script? I know this will take more effort from the machine, but THAT will be Awesome... Thanks for your dedication.
Best regards Henrik

Yahoooooo
changing the command line from cmd/C"d:\licmon\licmon.exe" to
cmd/C"Perl d:\licmon\LicMon.pl" did the trick. Strange though - but now it works - Im a happy man again.... ;-)
The suggestion is still valid, but thanks again for this valuable tool. I wish that I could come shake your hand at RUG 03 - but unfortunately budget is low this year...
Best regards Henrik

Like I said before, I'm glad it's of use to you and others!! We use it all the time, and I thought it worth sharing with all...

Enjoy!
