Hi List,

I was wondering if any one has seen this before.

User enters a date into a character field. I want to be able to convert
this character field value into a date value, and set that date value into
another field (a date field). To do this I use a TO_DATE SQL command in a
Set Fields action. I am sure that the SQL command is correct. But when the
link fires I get the following Oracle error:
ORA-24374 Define not done before fetch or execute and fetch

Unfortunately I do not understand what to do about such an error. This
active link worked just fine when I was using ARS 4.03 on Oracle 8. But
since upgrading to Oracle 8i and ARS 4.5 (last year!), I keep getting the
Oracle error.

Thanks in advance...

Smile!
Jeneil

Hello listers,
I've being experienced some troubles with the Remedy
Action Request Server, several times at day the
service
crashes showing this error message in the arerror.log:

Tue Jan 29 17:10:36 2002 390620 : AR System server
terminated when a signal/exception was received by the
server (ARNOTE 20)
Tue Jan 29 17:10:36 2002 0xc0000005
Tue Jan 29 17:10:36 2002 390620 : AR System server
terminated -- fatal error encountered (ARNOTE 21)

Do you have any idea or suggestion about it?.

Jorge,
I have experienced the exact same problem. My ARS version as listed in the
server inf panel is 4.00.01. This problem is corrected by applying patch
790.

These occur when for some reason the AR System server is unable to connect to
the ARSystem database on SQL Server (if you restart a Windows 2000 server
without shutting ARS down first you will see them in arerror.log when SQL
Server shuts down with ARS service still running). I get them in my arerror
log every now and then - have not been able to pin down why, but the services
always restart immediately and only I notice it. As you can see, they have
affected Fast, List, and Escalation threads. I got them on both 4.5.2 Patch
1043 and 1104, and both SQL Server 2000 Sp1 and Sp2, before and after taking
the server from just over 1 gb RAM to 2 gb, so I have not isolated a specific
cause. It is sometimes in a time frame when I may have caught the server in
the middle of re-caching the 103,000+ User records (that's 103,000 GET's)
when I ran an import of People and User updates (anywhere from 30 to 3,000
records depending on the time of the semester), but I cannot be sure of that
either. It has only occurred ONCE since I applied Patch 1104 on January 15;
it had occurred sixteen times on January 14, the most ever.

Mon Jan 14 11:38:00 2002 390635 : AR System server terminated when a
signal/exception was received by the server (ARNOTE 20)
Mon Jan 14 11:38:00 2002 0xc0000005
Mon Jan 14 11:38:00 2002 390635 : AR System server terminated -- fatal error
encountered (ARNOTE 21)
Mon Jan 14 11:38:55 2002 390620 : AR System server terminated when a
signal/exception was received by the server (ARNOTE 20)
Mon Jan 14 11:38:55 2002 0xc0000005
Mon Jan 14 11:38:55 2002 390620 : AR System server terminated -- fatal error
encountered (ARNOTE 21)
Mon Jan 14 11:39:29 2002 390603 : AR System server terminated when a
signal/exception was received by the server (ARNOTE 20)
Mon Jan 14 11:39:29 2002 0xc0000005
Mon Jan 14 11:39:29 2002 390603 : AR System server terminated -- fatal error
encountered (ARNOTE 21)

These entries were in the event logs at that time:

The application, , generated an application error The error occurred on
01/14/2002 @ 11:39:36.400 The exception generated was c0000005 at address
77FCBAC4 (RtlSizeHeap)
Unable to read local eventlog (reason: The data area passed to a system call
is too small).

Since it has not disrupted services that I can tell, I have not logged a
ticket with Peregrine - if you get some indication from them why it is doing
it I would be very interested in hearing that.

ARS is a Unix Client/Server program that was ported to NT. I think what
you are seeing is a classic Client/Server strategy where the servers are
designed to be monitored by a parent server who's only job is to
start/monitor/kill/restart children. The children do the actual work.
Web servers are another common server originally designed this way.

As long as the servers restart transparently to the clients, I wouldn't
worry about servers that die and complain. Well, except if you see a
pattern develop or the restarts become a throughput bottleneck.

On Solaris I used to make certain changes to the config file and force a
restart of the children to pick up the changes without forcing people
off the server. That is one way to change the number of running servers
without Users seeing it. No reboot necessary.

I haven't tried this with 5.0 so I can't say if this advice still works
with 5.0.

Talk to Dave Charters at www.Charterssoftware.com I believe he has gotten his application past beta, and at beta it was good.

Can someone point me in the direction of STRESS TEST or LOAD TEST software for Remedy. Any information that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. We are currently looking at Loadrunner. Any other suggestions?
