Hi Listers,
I tried to install ARS 4.5.1 as non-root user. I followed the steps in
installation guide- setting up environment variable, copy ar and ar.conf
files to /etc directory, etc... but the installation process was terminated
at stage 5. I viewed the arErrorLog, I didn't see any particular errors
that directly related to the termination of the installation but only those
errors due to dropping table or view which doesn't existed. I tried to
restart the installation process from stage 5 but it doesn't work.
Does anyone have experience on installing ars successfully as non root
user?
Platform: Solaris
Oracle 8.1.6
ARS 4.5.1
Thanks,
Charlene

We installed ars as root, then we changed all permissions and groups. Just
remember the /var/spool/remedy directory.
You can also change this:
export NTSPOOLDIR=

I chose this method as well. I think the installer is broken... Or the doc...

Remedy's installer program is heinous. It's been that way since v1.1.3.

I have installed ARS as non-root several times. Stage 5 is where the
install tries to start the server. You list that you copied the ar and
ar.conf files to the /etc directory. Did you also copy an empty remedy.lic
file to the /etc directory and make sure that all 3 files are accessible to
the user you want to run the Remedy server under.

I`ve had problems installing ARS 4.5.1/Oracle/HP-UX as non-root user at
stage 5. Apparently, installation script has got a wrong line requesting
user for a set of permissions for /usr/spool/remedy. When starting the
daemons, the notification server won`t start.
The work around was setting full permissions for /usr/spool/remedy to the
unix user that runs Remedy.
