You will need to purchase new licenses for the server R1 if you want to run
them concurrently. If you wish to use the same licenses, you will need to
purge them in R3 and apply them in R1. Usually, the purged licenses expire
after 30-60 days. Yes, you can run them concurrently if you have the
appropriate licenses for each of the server.

Hello Listers,

I will be moving to a new server within the next few weeks. We would also
like to move to the new version of the software at the same time. I am not
sure how this all works. What do I do about the licenses? is it possible to
run both servers concurrently, we would rename the current server to R3 and
the new one would be R1, how would that work with the licenses?

Feeling a little helpless....

Licenses are linked to the MAC address of your server's network card.

You are going to have to purge your licenses to get new keys for the new
machine. Following a purge I think you have 90 or 30 days grace during
which tme you are allowed to use both licenses.

You must go to your old machine and purge it. If you don't and the machines
are on the same network, they will find each other and know that they have
the same key! Result - one won't work.

You can purge thru' the web site and get the new key by email 24hrs a day.
WARNING - After submitting a purge wait until you get the email before doing
the next one. I submitted 10 purges the other week, and got 13 replies. In
those 13 replies there were only 5 different keys! Possibly a workflow
bug!! Anyway, 24hr Remedy support fixed it with their new follow the sun
helpdesk so no down time incurred. Of course unlike me you could be
organised enough to have your new keys ready before you try and swap! I
forgot and tried to get it all sorted on Sunday afternoon.

If you are changing names you'll have to "clean" all your workflow and
update every client's login info. We run with a server alias which gets
around this problem.
