The real issue for Remedy is "How can we effectively get our OWN people to
this event?". That was the major reason that it was in Santa Clara this
year vs. L.A. last year. They were able to have a much larger presence
without the business of the company being as adversely affected. I'd look
for something within a couple hours drive of the Bay area to be the venue.

I agree. How about Portland, Oregon? All we have to offer is excellent
scenery and accomodations. The Convention Center is right down town and
might work well for the event (and it really doesn't rain as much as people
say it does).

I agree that it would be great as far as price, and the location wouldn't be
bad either (since I'm in San Diego). The problem I see is the distraction
of having the event in a town which is a playground for adults. I don't
have a problem with gambling...but I don't live in a hotel with a casino
downstairs that never closes.
While most people MIGHT be able to restrain themselves, others will be drawn
to the casino's rather than attending the seminars, which is why Remedy puts
this conference on anyway. This is just speculation, but if it was my
company I wouldn't want to compete with the casinos for the attention of the
attendees.

I spoke with the RUG coordinator and a few options were mentioned. One
was
Las Vegas...which would probably be okay, unless the people that
attended
spend more time gambling than attending the seminars. I can hear the
stories now of how people lost big $$$ while at RUG2001. That would
cast a
cloud over the whole event. I'm sure Remedy would rather have people
talking about the good time they had rather than the money they lost.
I was also told San Jose may be the venue again since it was close to
the
Remedy home office.
One major factor is hotel rooms. Remedy would like to have the RUG held
at
a location that can accommodate all the attendees at one location, or
within
walking distance to the conference center.
I would like to see it in a place that was a little more affordable so
my
company won't balk at the price of the room! I'm sure the choice will
be
made soon since you have to book an event of that size many months in
advance.

Hey Rick -
I agree. They entertained the idea of hosting RUG at an east coast venue,
which would make it easier and less expensive for the European guests, but
would make it much harder for Remedy to hold the conference... and continue
business as usual. Since many of their employees work the conference, it's
much more convenient to hold it closer to home.

of having the event in a town which is a playground for adults. I don't
have a problem with gambling...but I don't live in a hotel with a casino
downstairs that never closes. While most people MIGHT be able to
restrain themselves, others will be drawn to the casino's rather than
attending the seminars, which is why Remedy puts this conference on
anyway.
This is just speculation, but if it was my company I wouldn't want to
compete with the casinos for the attention of the attendees.

Hotel rooms in las vegas are very affordable during
the
week... it's the weekend rates that are outrageous... they would also be
able to acocmodate everyone in one place, with some time for other
activities.

I
spoke with the RUG coordinator and a few options were mentioned. One was
Las Vegas...which would probably be okay, unless the people that
attended spend more time gambling than attending the seminars. I can
hear the stories now of how people lost big $$$ while at RUG2001. That
would
cast a cloud over the whole event. I'm sure Remedy would rather have
people talking about the good time they had rather than the money they
lost.
I was also told San Jose may be the venue again since it was close
to
the Remedy home office.
One major factor is hotel rooms.
Remedy
would like to have the RUG held at a location that can accommodate
all
the attendees at one location, or within walking distance to the
conference center.
I would like to see it in a place that was a
little
more affordable so my company won't balk at the price of the room!
I'm
sure the choice will be made soon since you have to book an event of
that size many months in advance.
