HI folks,
We would like to install FTS and have tried twice without sucess:-( The
last effort resulted in the following error messages

The answer that I got from Remedy regarding FTS is:
"It is a voodoo thing. To make it work you have to stand on your head, spin
and bite the head of a chicken"...
Not really reassuring!
So that may explain why we are not using it and just are ignoring that
feature for now!

Last year, at my previous job ( Remedy 3.2), FTS spent most of the time not

Ditto for us. It has never worked! Tech Support's current stance is...wait
til you upgrade from 3.2.1 to 4.5.1 (planned for later this month) and see
if that fixes it.

Remedy privately admits that the problem is that the version of FTS that they resell from Verity is a very old one that Verity isn't interested in supporting. Sybase 11.9 uses a newer version of Verity's FTS, embedded in the DBMS where I believe it belongs, and it seems to work better there.

I use the wrong chicken (wrong colour )...
But seriously, if Remedy can fix this issue, I will be very happy. We need
to be able to use FTS to create our problem manager.
I am crossing my fingers that the 4.5.1 version will remedy the problem!

Did they mention what color chicken? Seriously, once you get it running
(good luck), we found that turning the FTS logs on actually kept it running
for as long as a week or so before having to rebuild the indexes.

When you say that FTS "doesn't work", what exactly do you mean?
Does it simply "not find" anything? Does it blow up the system? Does it return the wrong
records?

For us it means that it does not populate all the indexing files it creates
so that when the user queries on a field that is defined for FTS they get an
error message saying that an FTS search is pending. When you clear the error
message only records that case-match your criteria are returned. For example
a search for "TEST" on an FTS field will only return values containing TEST,
not Test or test as it should.

Not working for us means that the server was continuously reindexing and
everyone was being looked out the database. This ended up with the server
crashing almost all the time for 4 days, before I simply removed all mention
of FTS on the server! And when it did "work", the FTS field stayed blank
anyway.

We have FTS and it does work. When I run into problems with it I find the
best thing to do is remove the
ftindex dir. and reindex (process found in Admin guide v2) this sucks but it
works. The one big problem I am having and it is BIG is that FTS add about
a considerable amount of time to saving a form. For example total time to
save a ticket was 37sec of that 37sec 33sec was FTS processing time.
Another mistake we did with FTS is that we set non-longtext field to FTS.
This just adds more time to a Search.
