We're running ARS 4.0.3 on NT 4.0. I have a couple of users (but not all of
them) that are not getting notified until several hours later. I checked
the nfydata.0 file and the notifications are making it to the file. I also
checked the nfylogu file and the user is logged in. It's also a somewhat
intermittent problem. Most of the time the users receives notifications
just fine, but there are a few times that it may take up to 12 hours for
them to receive a notification.

Other things about one particular user make him different than most of the
rest of the users. First, his computer remains turned on and logged into
Notifier all day. The rest of the staff are just logged in 8am - 5pm.
Next, whenever he logs into the notifier, it hangs on him for at least a
minute or two while it's logging him into the system. I don't think that
being logged in all day would affect his notifications; however, the system
hanging could be part of the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or do you have any ideas of
things I could try to figure why the notifications aren't getting to some of
the users?

Thanks in advance!

rest of your users or are they going through separate segments or a
different firewall?. We have had a similar problem and found out that the
users having the problem could not get the information back through the
firewall from the server. Basically it looked like we were logged in to the
notifier tool but there was no traffic coming back to the NT tool. I know
that this answer was vague but make sure that they are going exactly as the
user that are not having the problem. Also if someone else logs into that
machines notifier do they get their notifications?

firewall. He's on the same domain and network as the server. I haven't
checked if someone else can receive their notifications on his machine.
I'll have him try that too. It's just strange and hard to pinpoint because
it is so intermittent. It's usually fine for a few weeks and then he has
problems again.

Thanks for the ideas!

I've experienced similar problems with Notifier as the one particular user
you mentioned. I removed User/Notifier from the workstation, deleted all
the files left behind, and reloaded with the latest patch. This worked fine
for me!

We are run into this problem about every three months or so. I stay logged
into the notifier for weeks and it doesn't affect me. Like you said the users
who log out every night may not see their notifications for hours after they
login in the morning.

The first solution from Remedy was to wait for version 4.5, (unacceptable).

The fix for us was to stop the notification server and delete all the nfy*
files then restart the server. This cleared up the problem immediately. The
files are automatically recreated. You might want to do this off-hours.
