Perhaps everyone was intent on the workshops and didn't care that Disneyland was right across the street, but I like the idea of mixing business with pleasure. It certainly provided a much needed distraction in the evening from hours and hours of presentations all day.

Was it me or did there seem to be a general disappointment in the air
when they announced at RUG 99 that RUG 2000 would be in Santa Clara? It's
hard to beat Disneyland for a venue.

the conference that I didn't even have time to visit the park once. And it
still took me 2 weeks to catch up on my sleep. Remedy's reason for having
it nearer their HQ was that they could bring more of their people to answer
questions and meet the customers - an admirable goal.

And, with Great America right next door, it's not like there will be an
absence of a place to play, or to drop one's family off, though I agree that
Disneyland's pretty tough to beat.

is more to experience than one could possibly take in. Thank goodness
for the conference proceedings books they give you to take home.
I've never been to Great America. If they have a good coaster perhaps
that will get the blood flowing to the lower extremities again for the next
day of presentations.

One reason I didn't go last year is because of Anaheim. Except for
Disney, what's there?

San Francisco was my all time favorite place for RUG.

Still, as others have mentioned, there were times I didn't even get to
go out to dinner.

San Francisco) there is an opportunity to find a more reasonably priced
hotel (under $100) not terribly far from the conference site, unless all of
the hotels in the Santa Clara area are over $100 anyways (I haven't
checked). When they have these things in downtown areas of large cities you
have to go out to the suburbs (and drive quite aways and pay for parking,
etc.) to find a more reasonably priced hotel.

It's got a list of more hotels even though some don't have links.

At least by having it in a place like Santa Clara (as opposed to downtown
San Francisco) there is an opportunity to find a more reasonably priced
