#20496 - 12/22/99 07:29 AM 4.03 User Tool "Tools" menu hangs

questions:

First - In the 4.03 user tool, clicking on the Tools menu in the menu bar
hangs User Tool for at least 1 full minute before displaying the menu. I
understand that it's probably retrieving the menu from the server but other
menu retrievals don't take that long so I think I must have something funny
in that menu or something. Any pointers about which logfile to run so I can
analyze it? Has anyone else seen this? Nothing got hung up like thiis on
the 3.2 user tool although our server is old and slow.


Second - I'll be updating the server to the 3.2 patch which makes us Y2K
compliant and running the 4.03 user tools and admin tools against it. I
know this is OK in the case of the user tools, how about admin tools? The
Remedy Supportweb indicates that this is OK but then again they indicate
that a lot of things are OK - is anyone doing this in practice? Will we be
OK? I don't plan to actually make any changes via Admin tool to this old
server, only migration away from it sometime next year.

This is purely a guess, but do you have a lot of macros ?

We have a large number of macros on a shared network drive, and
the 'tools' menu takes ages to respond.

If I remove the mapped network drive from the search path (under
tool... options) it responds like lighting.

I suspect that the list of macros is assembled when tools is
selected, rather than when you chose to run a macro, and that 3.2
did the latter.
