I think you may find it has something to do with the way the diary field is
stored in the table. It is actually encoded so you will be unable to update it
with straight text.
The only way I know of updating a diary field (I am open to corrections )is by
using the Remedy API'S. Using Perl and ARSPerl, I use either ars_SetEntry or a
combination of (ars_EncodeDiary/ars_MergeEntry) or
(ars_EncodeDiary/ars_CreateEntry).
