are there any Remedy ootb or Unix server tools available that I can use to dig furhter as to why the arserverd process was running at 100% ?

Please check the transaction log of Remedy database with the help of your Database guy or if you have access to the Remedy database try this command in dbcc sqlperf(logspace), this is for SQL 2005.
