James:

Who is Andy M.?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have actually been to the two most
popular ones it seems. The first class I took (ARS 4.5 I think) in
Pleasanton, then had the 5.0 in Clearwater. I enjoyed both, but I would
have to say there seemed to be more to do in P-town.
Of course since I originally posted this I checked the BMC website and
there is now a training center in Atlanta, Ga. If the class is offered
there I will probably have to go there for the class (bean counters
always wanting to save a buck).

Any course suggestions? I am not a programmer by nature, but I have
managed (with a lot of help from the ARSlist) to maintain our system and
add a few new functions.

P.S. This list is the best thing since sliced bread!!!!

I agree with your assessment of the P-Town center. I always liked the
tour
of the call center and got to meet a few of the folks who are no longer
there. I actually had a face-to-face with Andy M. and I left that
meeting
thinking even higher of him. If you can go to the P-Town center, I
highly
recommend it.

And the 'town' of Pleasanton is great too. You would not have an idea
that
you were in the middle of the Valley.

Ah, the Philly Cheesesteak place. The best part of being in
Pleasanton...
(This coming from someone who once lived there.)

That said, I think that the Pleasanton training center is really top
notch,
you get nice facilities and the people are usually very on top of their
game.

Rick:

Forgot about the training centers. I've been to P-town on several
occasions. Looks like my last trip will be so. BMC has opened a
partnered
training center in Phoenix and that is where I will have to take
training,
for several reasons.

I definately like the Philly Cheesesteak place on Stoneridge
though....Great
food and it is served PIPING hot (ephasis is: Watch out or you may burn
your mouth...)

Plenty of good places to eat and stay. The Sierra Suites is RIGHT
across
the street and the Larkspur (formerly Candelwood) is right next to the
In-n-Out Burger.

And if you wish, you can walk all over the place and the BART is right
up
the street from the training center, about one mile or so. Quick ride
to
Oakland or Frisco.

Andy,

ARS upgrade - no problem. There are some nice additions to v7 - I'd
suggest
that you wait until you see it before deciding if they're worth waiting
another month or so for. If you have ITSM apps, you should DEFINITELY
wait
until you see v7 - it's a real dramatic shift from v6.

Pleasanton is the only training center to which I've been, but I love it
there.

I am currently running ARS 5.1 and will soon be looking to upgrade. I
wanted
to get some recommendations on what version to go to. I am trying to
decide
if I should wait for version 7, or go ahead and upgrade to version 6.3.
I
can positives and negatives both ways.

With version 6.3, I would be getting a battled tested, patched version
that
has been in use for aw while.
With version 7 I would get the maximum lifespan before having to
upgrade
again.
Decisions, decisions......
Also, I am planning on attending a training class at some point this
year
(before we upgrade). Any favorite training locations?

I second Claire's vote. It isn't that far from Washington DC as well (45
minutes drive), so you can do a whole lot of site seeing and if your
there for a weekend, you have to see the Air & Space Museum and the
International Spy Museum. I always make it a point to check them out
when I'm in DC.

Also several good restaurants in DC or Georgetown. You can try out
Ethiopian cuisine if you haven't tried it before.

Let put in a vote of confidence for the Columbia, MD training location.
Just a few minutes drive from Baltimore and the Inner Harbor.

This is where I have done all my training. It is the home of Lenny!!!
Sure, there is no call center to tour, but you get LENNY!!!

Claire,

I vote for Columbia, too.

LENNY! LENNY! LENNY!

I've done all but one Delta class there. Anybody remember when it was on Eli Whitney drive in the Sun building.
Rte 175 and the Snowden River Pkway area has changed.

Plus it's in driving distance from South Jersey.

Go see the Arundel Mills Mall and stop at Timbuktu for killer crab cakes.

Rick:

Forgot about the training centers. I've been to P-town on several occasions. Looks like my last trip will be so. BMC has opened a partnered training center in Phoenix and that is where I will have to take training, for several reasons.

I definately like the Philly Cheesesteak place on Stoneridge though....Great food and it is served PIPING hot (ephasis is: Watch out or you may burn your mouth...)

Plenty of good places to eat and stay. The Sierra Suites is RIGHT across the street and the Larkspur (formerly Candelwood) is right next to the In-n-Out Burger.

And if you wish, you can walk all over the place and the BART is right up the street from the training center, about one mile or so. Quick ride to Oakland or Frisco.

James

Andy,

ARS upgrade - no problem. There are some nice additions to v7 - I'd suggest that you wait until you see it before deciding if they're worth waiting another month or so for. If you have ITSM apps, you should DEFINITELY wait until you see v7 - it's a real dramatic shift from v6.

Pleasanton is the only training center to which I've been, but I love it there.

Rick

I am currently running ARS 5.1 and will soon be looking to upgrade. I wanted to get some recommendations on what version to go to. I am trying to decide if I should wait for version 7, or go ahead and upgrade to version 6.3. I can positives and negatives both ways.

With version 6.3, I would be getting a battled tested, patched version that has been in use for aw while.
With version 7 I would get the maximum lifespan before having to upgrade again.
Decisions, decisions......
Also, I am planning on attending a training class at some point this year (before we upgrade). Any favorite training locations?

William:

Leonard Warren. He is probably the best trainer that BMC (and Remedy) has. He is usually out somewhere training folks. It is very unusual to find him in Columbia, MD these days.

I would always choose Pleasanton over columbia. While Lenny is a
superior trainer (and a hell of a good guy), he is on the road so much
anymore that you probably would not have him.

Pleasanton facilities are very nice. Hotel's are in walking distance
(Nothing to do in columbia). And if you stay at the Summerfield
suites....YOU GET FREE BEER!!!!!

Wheeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

Lenny told us at BMC in Houston during the World Wide Technical Forum (where
he taught the CMDB classes for partners) that he was going to cease
traveling as much if at all (if that's possible). If this is indeed true,
then he would be in MD.
