Hey there,
I am looking for any "What's New" docs for 7.0. Have they been published yet?
Anyone with any info on 7.0 features etc... please pass them along. :)

The 7.0 release is supposed to entail a host of changes beyond what we've seen in past releases in that the core of the product is being rewritten/re-engineered. This includes the internationalization support, logging subsystem rewrite, and a host of other changes. For thse reasons, I have a feeling that there will be some major kinks that will have to be worked out with the initial 7.0 release, moreso than we've experienced with past dot zero releases.

If you don't have Asset information/records, then you can skip to whatever version you'd like. There were only upgrade utilities starting with ITSM 5.

So.... the 465 Bazillion Dollar question is.... If I am about to do an upgrade from HD 4.04 and ARS 4.5.2 should I wait and move to 7? or go to 6.x as planned????

I think you're right, Matt. From what I can see, the ITSM 7 platform is WAY different than ITSM 6. I don't know what specifics I can share, so don't ask for any, but this is a completely re-defined application built around ITIL and the CMDB. Much more distributed and flexible. I like it.

Michael,
If BMC actually get the new Common Data Model right, then you would think that People will have to be included as Configuration Items in their own right which would mean re-architecting the whole SHR:People workflow that is integral to ITSM.
For that reason, I think CMDB 2 will require ITSM 7.
Cheers,
Matt

Thanks for the information...
Has anyone heard whether CMDB 2.0 will be compatible with ITSM 6.x applications or will it require use of ITSM v7.0?

I don't think any are being completely eliminated, but they will no longer all be installed by default. My understanding is that CMDB 2 will install with a basic set of common - REALLY common - classes, and have additional sets of classes available to import such as all of the SAP and Java/J2RE whatever, that is just wasted space and overhead on our system under CMDB 1.1. That allows BMC to expand the library of OTB-defined classes for compatibility with future upgrades, but lets us pick the ones we need a la carte for installation. At some point there is supposed to be a new white paper dealing with the class changes, probably at the point when 2.0 is released. Someone correct me if I have gotten this wrong.

Thanks Rick.
Does anyone have a document containing a list of the specific classes that will be eliminated in 2.0?
We are currently architecting a CMDB and I'd rather not utilize classes that are targeted for removal.
Thanks,
Michael

Confirm. Should be scaled back to about 60% of its present size. That will make extending the CDM easier with less risk of affecting performance, because of the smaller number of joins that will be in play. BMC will be providing a utility (probably not at release time, but soon after) to migrate from the present CMDB 1.x structure to the smaller 2.0 version.

Can anyone confirm/deny the rumors that the Common Data Model used in CMDB 1.x will be greatly modified or scaled back in CMDB 2.0?
Does anyone have information (Visio diagrams, documentation, etc) on the CDM that will be utilized in CMDB 2.0?
