Hello Listers,

ARS 6.3 Patch 14

Mid-Tier 6.3 Patch 14

Java 1.4.210

All of this is running on the same server. The DB is hosted remotely.

I am experiencing problems using IE 6 with the Mid-tier on my PC. Firefox works!

I installed JRE 1.4.210 on my local PC, there are also to J2SE Runtime Environment 5 updates (4 & 6).

One of my open window AL's works as designed. It opens in Dialog mode.

The other Open Window AL's open in Search or Create and they don't function.

I can not double click in a table and get the corresponding record using the AR System Mid Tier Object list or any of my own tables.

The compatibility matrix says 1.4.2+ so I thought I was OK.

I also checked the settings in the Internet Options of IE6. I unchecked the Use JRE 1.5.006 for applet but our IT department seems to have it reset to checked at each Reboot.

If this is the issue then it looks like I am locked out of Midtier with IE6. There are too many PC's to change everyone's registry entry and Firefox is "not supported".

Does anyone know if there is a patch to use JRE 1.5+ for midtier?

Thanks,

John,
This will be a thorny situation, too many variables to be completely certain.

However...

I thought that MT 6.3 was supposed to be independent of client-side Java,
running on server-supplied javascript only. Therefore, the version located on
the user's desktop should be irrelevant; it is not being utilized.

The symptoms observed by you have not yet presented here in our environment,
which is:

ARS 6.3 Patch 14 with DB(MS-SQL) on WinServ2003 (box 1)
Mid-Tier 6.3 Patch 14 (box 2)
Java runtime 1.4.203 (also on box 2)
webpublishing by IIS 6.0

And, we have deliberately NOT updated the server Java from that listed above,
just on the suspicion of behavior observed by your group.

Justin,

My system is working again. I don't know why.

If I find any fixes or workarounds, should this happen again, I will
post them to the List.

Don,

Thanks for the info. I tried a different PC that did not have the JRE 1.5 installed and it worked there. Then I installed the JRE and it still works.

Now my laptop is working also.

The only thing that changed was a restart of the services on the AR System server but that should not affect my client.

Well, another mystery, still a mystery.

Hello Listers,

Here's an update.
It stopped working again.

BUT if I perform a CTRL-N to open a new window with the form already
loaded then the Open Window AL's work when the buttons are clicked.
And when I logout of the new forms I get taken to the shared logout jsp.
Now I have two browsers windows: one logged out and the original one in
the form. Clicking on the Open Window AL button throws an error because
I am logged out of the session.

I'm kind of stumped because there is still that Open Dialog button that
works no matter which instance I use.

TIA,

Hello Listers,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I have pinned the problem down to one common situation.
Our IT department runs a portal named Passport that has numerous
'iviews'
on the page.
Looks like an ARS View field to me.
If I type my Midtier URL into the address bar when the portal is
displayed
the proper page opens but the AL buttons that open other forms refuses
to work.
If I start once again at the portal and type www.cnn.com and then type
my
midtier URL the proper page opens and all of the AL buttons and
double-clicks on the tables work.
Is it possible that the javascript on the portal is preventing the
Midtier
from loading all that it needs to function? Most people will bookmark
the
Midtier link and the favorites bookmark tries to open the Midtier form
in
the same window, which of course doesn't work.
Oh and it's not a popup blocking thing either. I've turned it on and off
with no difference in the results.

Thank God this is the shortest day of the year. I can't take much more
of this.
Thanks,
