This is a little strange - just tried to do some data extracts with the
reporting tool, only to find that the reporting tool was greyed out.

Fine, someone must have disabled it - sure enough, in most of the views,
the reporting wasn't available. Enabled it, saved the forms, and its still
greyed out. Any suggestions?

Have you enable the reporting option in the right view? Have you tried to
delete .arf and .arv files in the ARS installation folder?
