Our environment is Mid-Tier 6.3 on windows 2000 and ARS 5.1.2 patch 1303
on HPUX 11.11. No problems so far but it's pretty much OTB. Been
running this way for about a month but we are upgrading ARS to 6.3
either this week or next.

Hello Listers,
Anyone running successfully this setup?
Any recommandation about the necessary patch level on the ARS server?
I know Remedy supports officially Mid-Tier 6.3 on the latest patch of
ARS 5.1.2 but I was wondering if this is really mandatory... Any input
is welcome. Catherine

When 6.3 came out and specified at least ARS 5.1.2 Patch 1367, their
warning in the 28 January Release Notes was explicit enough that I
believed them, but it was not an issue since my 5.1.2 servers were
already up to Patch 1375, where I have kept them since January 2005. I
have successfully run mid-tier 6.3 with various patches against the
5.1.2 servers ever since, primarily for Macintosh users. I have not run
into some of the patch-specific 6.3 mid-tier problems with direct URLs
since my email notifications are still sending out URLs to the 5.1.2
mid-tier servers.

Hello,
I've just done this for one of my customers. I used the latest patch for
5.1.2 - which was a mega patch. I'm using the dreaded patch 13 for mid-
tier which I think has issues but not that trouble me.

The patching of the 5.1.2 server is required as (at least) the cache
refresh in mid-tier doesn't work properly on earlier patches.

Also - MT 6.3 tables don't wrap by default as they do in MT5 - so - even
using a V6.0.3 Admin tool you have to export the form to a "real" V6
server - set the wrap attribute - then re-import to V5. I've had quite a
lot of form and table corruption (e.g. MT displaying blank pages) if I
edit the forms on the V5 server - so I always export them now.

Other gotchas I found in MT6 were:

Can't have Attachment field buttons (ADD etc.) if the Attachment field is
on a display only form. You have to create your own Add button then use
the Add-Attachment process.

Carriage returns are ignored in MT6 table cells - so I have to create an
HTML column with an HTML break instead.

Good news - performance is awesome (in a good way).

Hope this is useful...

Regards,

John

Hi,

I had a somewhat related question to this.

Has anybody tried ARS 5.1.2 with MT 6.3, but having them on different
platforms? Specifically ARS 5.1.2 on Linux and MT 6.3 on Windows.

Thanks,
Erwin
