I am trying to learn how to use Flashboards by following the
tutorial in the “AR System 6x: What’s New” manual.

I started by creating a Flashboards Variable, and as far as I
can see I have entered all the info. But when I try to save I
get “Save failed.” Of course it doesn’t give any hint as to
WHY the save failed. That would make it too easy.

Any suggestions on what to look for?

(ARS 6.3, HPUX-11 server)

Dwayne,

Try checking how long your variable query is. If it is too long to be
contained in the Query field in the FB:Variable form then you get this
error. The field comes with a very small size out of the box. You can
either use a shorter Query in your variable, or you can increase the size
of the Query field (we increased it to 4000 - you don't want to go any
higher than that or it will become a CLOB in the database.). We ran this
by Remedy support just to be safe and they told us it was ok to do this.

Thanks,
Mike

Make sure the Flashboard forms are actually on your ARS server. When we
upgraded to 6.3 from 5.1.2, the Flashboard forms did not get imported
and I had to import them manually, from a .def file. I couldn't create
anything until the forms were loaded on the server.
