Change is not always good, no matter how much we throw that party line
out. Adjustment to that change doesn't mean it was a good thing, it
just occurs. It's not that I don't like evolution, and there's not a
day that goes by that I don't learn something, courtesy of technical
responses on the arslist. You just prefer change to be forward moving
and beneficial, well thought out with openings for expansion.

Ummmm ... I think you're suggesting we should be happy about paying
for a sales pitch .... that's kind of like a telemarketer calling
during Alias ... !

I may have sounded a bit cynical about the RUG changes but there's
nothing wrong with wanting things that have worked well with numerous
benefits that give you energy and desire to go back and make more
changes !

Change just for the sake of change is not necessarily good change.

Shaven heads? White robes? Chanting? A priestly order? Whaaaaaaa???

Where is the originality? These have all been done before...

Make a statement: streak the conference while covered only in Remedy-Green
jello.

Now that would blow some minds.

Hmmm...I never took Latin and am not a Catholic, so my apologies to any I might inadvertantly offend, but here's my first chant:

Remedium caritas annona (Remedy costs a lot)
suemus etiamnum contionor anniversarius (We still attend every year)
suemus denarro procurator lucubratio (We tell our manager it's work)
twinkius en voro fermentum ebibo (But eat Twinkies and drink beer)

Susan,

No change isn't good just for the sake of itself. However, change must be embraced for it is in-evitable. No it isn't always good. But if you use your imagination you might find a way to turn even bad changes into useful changes.

And to be honest, maybe my response was a bit of a knee-jerk, because I have had many users over the years (and expect to have many more) that refuse change because they don't see the advantage, and usually don't even want to look at the posibilities.

Now personally speaking, if the presentations are sales pitches I am ok with that. They gave me a small synopsis of what is to be expected from every presentation, and I personally will go to two. But the joy of the presentations is that they aren't included in the cost of the conference. So if you aren't interested, you didn't pay for them or loose any money.

The changes that are being instituted aren't manadatory and that is important. Now don't get me wrong, next year my position might change completely. But for now, I say let them try other things. And if enough of my brothers and sisters complain, I expect that they will go back.

Also as Dave pointed out before, this is my first RUG. So I don't really have much room to complain. Also, I am just excited about going and meeting some of the people that I have had the pleasure of dealing with for so long, that I can let something like a few bad presentations slide.

Also, I will also admit that last year, when I was looking at the list, I would have had full days before the conference and this year I am only going to go to two of them. But then, maybe I will bring my golf clubs.
