I'm surprised we haven't seen something like this yet:

ABC Corporation would like to wish you "Happy Holidays", respecting the tradition that you adhere to. This is a not binding salutation. You are in no way required to repeat this salutation or even acknowledge it but you are free to do so at your leisure. ABC Corporation will not be responsible for any legal ramnifications of you independently taking part of this non-binding salutation.

If you do not celebrate holidays at this time of year we do not intend this saluation to reflect on your belief or lack of belief. Should you wish to have a more strongly worded greeting worded in the tradition of your personal belief or lack of belief individual employees may take that action independently, provided they follow the guidelines of the Corporate policy on inclusiveness and respect.

ABC Corporation likes to respect the traditions and non-traditions of all customers, associates, and employees.

Normally, yes, however, its for my mother and there's very little she likes. They went and replaced the one station she doesn't complain about!

I won't be blasting you, but agreeing with you on how we're inundated with Christmas music that starts playing even before Thanksgiving! I celebrate Christmas and I really do enjoy Christmas music, but I find myself hating it by the time Christmas Day rolls around. I can understand playing Christmas music all day long on Christmas eve and Day, but before that... come on, it's a bit much!
My solution, I change the radio station when a Christmas song comes on, except on Christmas Day. Unfortunately, I can't do much about the in-store music, but that doesn't bother me much. I celebrate Christmas by the old Calendar ( which is Jan 7th in the current Calendar) thus I do all my shopping during the "after Christmas Sales" which by then the stores no longer pipe in Christmas music.

I don't mean to start a debate, and my specialty is in "PC" computers, not "PC" politics, and I most certainly don't take offense at people wishing me a Merry Christmas (I work phone support and this time of year its the last thing everyone says), however, I must say that some things are just overboard- I just got my mother a Satellite Radio. It has 1 channel for easy listening (I'm a bit shocked at this, but none-the-less). The provider has removed this one channel (along with 4 others) and is now playing nothing but Christmas music- there are at least 20 sports channels they could have replaced for this month- or better still, created a new channel for it, perhaps had one or two channels reserved for "seasonal"- marching bands for the 4th, love songs for Feb 14th, etc.

A lot of things seem to be like that it seems- don't get me wrong- I agree that its a huge shame everything is being taken so far (e.g. Christmas is a "bad" word), but I also don't see anything wrong with a "Happy Holidays!" either, especially when "Christmas" starts earlier and earlier every year- I went into one store in September and they already had their "Santa" stuff out.

And since I know I'm going to take heat for this one, Let the blasting begin ;~)

Indeed. Everywhere we go, it seems that there's "Winter Holiday" this and "Seasonal Occurrence" that - but what holidays are celebrated this time of year? Hannukah? Sure - if I know someone's Jewish, I'll be glad to wish them a happy one. Kwanzaa? Well, I don't even know exactly how that's celebrated, but if that lights someone's candle, I wish them the best one possible. For the other 95% of us in this nation, that holiday is Christmas.

Whether one is religious or not, 97% of the people in this country celebrate Christmas in some way - why can't we wish someone a Merry one? Why should we care if someone is so hyper-sensitive as to be offended by our doing so? The ACLU can kiss my big, white, hairy...mitten, if they think they can keep me from saying

Merry Christmas to All!

Just a few comments on everything:

Nothing taken personally- If I were going to do that, I wouldn't have made
any comments in the first place ;~)

Yes- the inundation is overbearing!! I would stop just short of saying it is
being forced on those (which is where I believe, in all good intentions, the
ACLU is coming from)

Freedom of Religion & Speech is granted- for both everyone to say what they
believe, and for everyone else to say what they think of those beliefs ;~)

And if we want to get really technical on calendars, Christmas as Jesus's
birthday isn't even in the right season!

Happy Holidays to all!

Old Calendar is the Julian Calendar which is 13 days behind the current

Hey, now, we're OT enough - let's not get into religious discussions here. There's plenty of Yahoo! boards (not to mention boards filled with yahoos) that will discuss that to death. ;-)

Merry Christmas to all (except to the ACLU, who get a mighty PPPPBBBBBBBTTTTTTHHHHHHH!!!, which they probably prefer anyway).

Enough of U.S.A. political issues please.

December 22:

Holidays for this date include...
Army Day Vietnam
Winter Solstice Holiday Hong Kong
Asara B'Tevet Judaism

Since no public funds (of any country or currency) go into the making of the
ARSlist,
and it certainly is a home of free speech created by a Canadian in the
most multi-cultural city in the world(and we're proud of it in Toronto):

Merry Christmas(Dec 25th or Jan 7th), Happy Solstice, Happy (belated)
Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa etc.....

Best wishes for a great Holiday Season (valid in most countries of the
world)

and a Happy New Year for them that have the new year on December 31st.

... Daniel
ps. world holidays can be found at
http://www.earthcalendar.net/php/lookup.php?mode=date
pps. and Stan, take the Mistletoe off your head, and stick it in your...
best bitter

When my freedom of speech is curtailed IE Merry Christmas every one and when my world changes when I grew up in New York state I prayed before each school day with my classmates and Pledged to the flag "One nation under God" and in our town square right dead center on the fountain near the five corners intersecting the village every year was dedicated a life size nativity and the lighting of the village "Christmas Tree" in the villages other park...now my five best buddy's and I would go to both right up to graduating high school and they would come over my house for Christmas and I would go over to their houses for there events ( all 5 where Jewish) I was the only gentile in our group. We were never offended but respected and were curious about each faith....some where reformed some orthodox, some conservative. Some of us are still communicating to this day. I remember football players that would "cross" themselves at touchdowns....a freedom of their own thankfulness to the God that gave them success...Social pressure is on us too try wandering though your job site wishing a Merry Christmas,,,,try putting a cross up in your cubical, even in some cases wearing one....my friend David (since childhood) was told to remove his yarmulke when he entered a big city court....the French law against headscraves works for yarmulke's as well...well enough this is a Friday to me as I won't work again till the 3rd so till then Merry Christmas, and happy other holidays and Happy New Year!
