I've just installed SQL 2000 then ARS 6.0.1 on a standalone machine. When I try to login to the user or admin tool, I receive the ARERR 90: Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System server....RPC program not registered.

The SQL and ARS services are running, and I used the server name as listed in the ar.cfg file (copy and paste) in the user tool login.

Probably something simple, but...

Thanks,

rp

Richard:

Try running rpcinfo against that machine. Also, make sure that the ARS
Service and SQL Server services are running. Looks like the services
are not running for ARS or not registered with the "portmapper" program.

Is the server name you used added to your local host file or added to
dns? You can check this by opening a CMD window and type "ping
" at the prompt.

If this results in "Ping request could not find host "
then you'd add the servername to your hosts file and restart the
Remedy Server service.

From a command line, run arserver.exe -m. If there are any errors when starting the AR service, you'll see them on the screen.

Hi
it is not something as simple as a firewall running on your computer, i know if not configured properly products like Zone Labs will do this. It will block all communication, so when you try to connect to the server even though it is the same machine you will get an error message.

kind regards

There is a known bug with Remedy version 6.0. I could connect to
ARAdmin but I got the error with the user tool. What worked for me was
to set the uncheck the disable escalation setting in ARadmin. I was
told by Remedy that until the bug is fixed I will have to individually
maintain my escalations, even in development. Since you can't log in to
ARAdmin, I believe that there is a filed in the arconfig file that
represents this value. If you modifiy on your server and then stop and
start the services, it should modify the setting. I don't know if you
are having the same problem that I was having, but I guess it might be
worth a try.
